NEW EDITION – Guide to the UIP Cleaning Level Key
A tank wagon undergoes an examination determining its ‘cleanliness’ both when it is rented out and restituted.
Usually a contractual obligation, a tank wagon should be returned by the lessee in a certain state of cleanliness, ideally in the same state that the lessor rented it out in the first place.
But what does clean mean for a tank wagon?
To help put everyone “on the same page”, UIP in collaboration with the technical experts from VERS (VPI European Rail Service GmbH) created a document to help assess in a uniform manner the cleanliness of a tank wagon according to specified parameters: the UIP Cleaning level key.
This key together with images and explanations constitute the practical guideline to assess the interior of a tank wagon as well as all equipment parts that come into contact with the product in tank wagons for the transport of liquid substances or liquefied gases. It does not constitute a safety evaluation.
