15 Rail Associations call on EU to ensure a continuation of the dedicated R&I Joint Undertaking for rail
The race is on for the next generation of EU research funding. As the European Commission shapes the Multi-annual Financial Framework for 2028-2034, decisions will soon be made on which sectors will be granted Public-Private Partnerships under the Horizon Europe fund.
The rail sector has a powerful track record: since 2014, operators, suppliers, academics, and wagon keepers have successfully united under a Joint Undertaking for rail to accelerate European research and pre-deployment. To ensure this momentum isn’t lost, 15 leading European rail associations, UIP amongst them, have co-signed a comprehensive position paper. Sent to both the European Commission as input in the call for evidence and national authorities, the paper highlights the undeniable added value of a dedicated rail Joint Undertaking for Europe’s sustainable future.
