OPEN LETTER: transport coalition calls for strong EU transport budget

UIP together with 44 European transport organisations joins forces and collectively urges national governments to strengthen European funding for transport under the future EU budget and particularly to increase the budget of the future Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to at least €100 billion.

The negotiations on the next EU budget will be the real ‘credibility test’ for the EU’s transport goals and climate ambitions. Only if policy objectives are met with significant, sustained and targeted investments in modernisation and deployment, will rail freight deliver on competitiveness and decarbonisation. The CEF must remain the robust vehicle that provides and prioritize digital upgrades alongside physical tracks. UIP also strongly suggests that sufficient flexibility is provided to re-channel uncommitted and undisbursed money under other EU funds to CEF-Transport.
