Joint sector paper: A successor to Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking is crucial
The rail sector reiterates its call to the European Institutions to ensure that there will be a successor to Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking that can carry on the essential work in rail R&I for the next MFF period 2028 – 2034.
In the new co-signed position paper from 1 December 2025, the signatories welcome the proposals of the European Commission for Horizon Europe and the European Competitiveness Fund and call for an optimal use of these programmes to deliver tangible benefits across Europe. This includes sufficient funding for rail research and development and thus the vital need to continue these activities within the framework of a successor to Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking.
Already in April this year the sector mobilized its members in this joint sector paper to impress the importance of the matter on the European Institutions.
