An open letter has been addressed on 4 February 2025 to Permanent Representatives of the 27 EU Member States in Brussels, as well as to several services of the European Commission (incl. DG BUDG and DG MOVE). In this joint letter, UIP – together with 48 other transport stakeholders – urges the European institutions to preserve a dedicated European transport funding instrument under the future EU budget.
The European Commission is expected to plan to redirect a large majority of the European transport funding towards Member States for Europe’s next long-term budget, starting in 2027.
The signatories of the letter consider that efficient and sustainable mobility and logistics chains are the backbone of the EU’s economic growth and cohesion, and that, in turn, a well-functioning transport network, with optimised cross-border connectivity and capacity, is the key enabler of efficient mobility and logistics.
As such, the transport community calls upon the EU institutions to preserve a long-term strategic and stable infrastructure investment planning with centralised management and coordination at European level that prioritises investments of high European added value.
