The next five years will be critical for the realisation of the EU’s sustainable transport targets. The European Commission expects rail freight traffic to increase by 50 % by 2030 and double by 2050 as per its 2020 Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy).
As the main private investors into rail freight, wagon keepers have a vested interest in its growth and an important business and political role to play in supporting the EU delivering on its objectives.
With the release of its ‘Strategic Priorities 2024-2029’, UIP addresses the political part and outlines its vision for rail as the backbone of Europe’s freight mobility. The document is a strategic roadmap and a call to action for enhancing rail freight’s competitiveness, market share and for promoting sustainable growth. It will guide UIP’s action on the European political scene in the next five years.
We invite all stakeholders to join us in building a robust, digital, automated, and connected rail freight system.
