During the plenary meeting of the European Rail Research Advisory Council (ERRAC), the Rail stakeholders unanimously endorsed the content and subsequent publication of a Rail 2050 Vision.
The document represents the vision of the rail sector for the needs of the future railway system as the backbone of Europe’s mobility. It sets out the important role that rail already plays in delivering economic and societal benefits in Europe and that it has the opportunity to contribute much more, taking advantage of technical developments. It also pushes the key message that the rail sector is able and ready to offer a significant contribution to the solution of mobility expectations in both passenger and freight/logistics and support economic growth, social cohesion, competitive markets, etc. by facilitating mobility.
The key to the delivery of this ambitious vision includes a closer collaboration with the other transport modes so as to put customers at the forefront of all considerations.
