UIP 38th Management Report 1987

In 1987, after the stabilisation of the prices of crude oil, the economy of Western European industrialised countries continued to be on the rise. However international stock market turbulence occurred at the end of this same year could have a negative influence on the future behaviour of consumers.

Thanks to the low level of oil prices, demand was stimulated, especially that of fuels, which reflected positively on the use of the oil tank wagons. Thanks to a record sale of cars, the use rate of car transporter wagons was also very good. The chemical industry took advantage of the favourable development of the purchase price, and its production is maintained at a high level. Given that the largest part of the production of this sector is sold in Western Europe, the low U.S. dollar exchange rate had only very small consequences for the distribution of these products. As such, the demand for tank wagons for the transport of chemical products was high, but it has always been possible to satisfy it.

The 1987 Management Report is available in both French and German.
