UIP 29th Management Report 1978

The evolution of the international situation did not get better and the economic growth remains low or moderate in the countries where UIP members are present.

The economic outlook is dominated by the deep and rapid transformations of the world economy.

Depending on networks, railway freight traffic remained roughly equal or knew a sharp improvement. Movements were contrasted for private wagon traffic from a sector to another: If a last drop happened in some sectors, others remained stable and several experienced a net recovery.
