Swiss FOT breaks with joint European decision and maintains unilateral national rules 

UIP strongly regrets the Swiss Federal Office of Transport’s (FOT) unilateral decision to act outside the conclusions of the Joint Network Secretariat.

On 23 January 2026, the FOT informed the Swiss Federal Administrative Court as well as the European Union Agency for Railways that  it will continue to stand by its national measures and does not see the JNS measures, published at the end of 2025, as sufficient. The answer to the Court followed the interim court order that temporarily suspended the FOT measures. The FOT stated that it will await the Court’s final ruling, expected at the earliest by June 2026.
