Keepers’ Summit 2025: a better role for rail in (inter) national multimodal logistics chains

UIP in cooperation with its Spanish member association FAPROVE welcomed 100 rail freight stakeholders from around Europe to its annual flagship conference – the ‘Keepers’ Summit’ – on 23 May 2025 in Valencia, Spain.

Always the place for stimulating discussions and interesting exchanges, this year’s edition of UIP’s annual flagship event did not disappoint. It even had an added festive element: the association’s 75th anniversary!

With high-level stakeholders from the Spanish railway world, discussions at the conference centered on the better integration of rail freight in domestic and international logistics chains by means of an optimized infrastructure and a better customer-focused service culture with multimodal solutions.  Spain with its current 4% of rail share has a lot of ground to cover to catch up but there are clear plans to modernize the network. Innovation being an essential element of this modernization, VOITH also presented its design for the Digital Automatic Coupler which is a part of the project ‘TRANS4M-R’ by Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking.
