Unilateral swiss safety measures may bring crashing down European rail freight

In reaction to the Gotthard Base Tunnel accident, the Federal Office of Transport of Switzerland has decided to enact safety measures (deadline to implement by 31 December 2025) that apply to all rail freight wagons circulating in and through its territory. In our UIP press statement we clearly call into questioning the rationality and feasibility of such a move that disproportionally puts the burden on wagon keepers, jeopardizes rail freight operations in all of Europe and runs counter to the works of the JNS Task force.

UIP calls towards safeguarding the European acquis and avoid any national actionism.
